Sonu Sood Calls on the Global Community to Pledge to “Build a Home”

Kathmandu: Indian actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday to support relief and rehabilitation efforts for citizens affected by the recent floods and inundation in Nepal.

He has come to Nepal with the aim of mobilizing humanitarian assistance in collaboration with Lions Clubs International and Khalsa Aid.

Speaking at a press conference held upon his arrival in Kathmandu, Sood appealed to communities around the world to come forward and support Nepal during this difficult time. He also proposed a “Pledge to Build a Home” campaign to help provide housing for people who have been left homeless by the floods.

Recalling that his organization had previously built 257 homes following floods in Punjab, India, he said that housing construction would also begin in identified areas of Nepal.

“Nepal is going through a very difficult time right now. At such a moment, it is our humanitarian responsibility to step forward and help as much as we can,” Sood said. “Rather than sending assistance from afar, being physically present, holding the hands of those affected, and reassuring them that we stand with them has a much greater impact. I have come here not just to help, but to fulfill my responsibility.”

According to Sood, a joint team from the Sood Charity Foundation, Lions Clubs, and Khalsa Aid is visiting affected areas on the ground to assess the actual needs of local communities.

He said that 2,000 blankets, clothing, dry food, and women’s health supplies had already been sent from India to Nepal.

Sood said he would visit flood-affected areas, including Nuwakot, and develop a long-term assistance plan to address challenges related to education, healthcare, and housing.

Praising the resilience and hardworking nature of Nepali citizens, Sood noted that most of the people who have worked with him in Mumbai over the past 25–30 years have been Nepali. He said the patience and smiles displayed by Nepalis even amid such a major disaster had inspired him further.

Meanwhile, Sood also expressed concern over climate change and environmental imbalance. He said that the exploitation of nature and deforestation were contributing to an increase in disasters around the world, stressing that serious efforts to protect nature must begin now to safeguard future generations.
