Madan Krishna Shrestha Among Five Honored with 44th Chhinnalata Song Awards

Kathmandu: Veteran singer and actor Madan Krishna Shrestha was among five distinguished artists honored at the 44th Chhinnalata Song Awards, organized by the Chhinnalata Song Award Trust in memory of renowned lyricist Ramola Devi Shah 'Chhinnalata'.
The awards were presented on Saturday by Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal during a special ceremony. Shrestha received the Chhinnalata Special Song Honor 2082, carrying a cash prize of Rs. 100,000, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Nepali music.
In the main award categories, Dr. Navaraj Lamsal was honored for lyric writing, Kiran Kandel for music composition, and Bimala Rai for singing. Each received the Chhinnalata Song Award along with a cash prize of Rs. 100,000.
Young singer Sarika Ghimire received the Chhinnalata Young Talent Award, which includes a cash prize of Rs. 50,000.
Speaking at the ceremony, award recipient Dr. Lamsal described songs as the foundation of civilization and lyricists as the seeds of that civilization. He also expressed gratitude to composers and singers for bringing his lyrics to life through music and performance.
Trust Secretary and litterateur Dinesh Adhikari said the organization has been honoring outstanding lyricists, composers, and singers since 1982 (B.S. 2039) for their remarkable contributions to Nepali music.
According to the trust, the awards have so far recognized 40 lyricists, 39 composers, 41 singers, and 41 young talents. This year's awards were presented on the occasion of the 104th birth anniversary of lyricist Ramola Devi Shah 'Chhinnalata'.
The ceremony also featured a poetry recital by Adidev Datta Singh, successor of the trust, while award recipients Bimala Rai and Sarika Ghimire entertained the audience with musical performances.
Previous recipients of the prestigious award include legendary figures such as Narayan Gopal Gurubacharya, Natikaji, Tara Devi, Amber Gurung, Koili Devi Mathema, Gopal Yonjan, Deep Shrestha, Bhakta Raj Acharya, Krishna Hari Baral, Dinesh Adhikari, and Basant Chaudhary.
