Lyricist Gopal Prasad Thaplia in the 'Creator and Creation - Discussion' program of Lyricist Association of Nepal

Kathmandu. The program “Creator and Creation – Discussion ” organized by the Songwriters Association Nepal has been completed on the creation of lyricist Gopal Prasad Thapaliya.

The program “Creator and Creation – Discussion” on the creation of lyricist Gopal Prasad Thapaliya was completed under the chairmanship of Songwriters Association Nepal President Basanta Bityasi Thapa and the chief guest of Nepal Pragya Pratishthan’s former Chancellor Ganga Prasad Upreti. The special guests at the program were Senior Poet and Lyricist SP Koirala, Advisor to Songwriters Association Nepal, Senior Lyricist Chudamani Devkota, Former President of the Association, Himalaya Times Editor and Critic Purushottam Dahal, Social Worker and Life Partner of the lyricist Sushila Devi Thapaliya, Son Gaurav Prasad Thapaliya, Brother Balananda Thapaliya. The program was completed in the presence of other family members of the lyricist as well as distinguished personalities from the fields of song, music, literature and communication.

A discussion was held on the creation of lyricist Gopal Prasad Thapaliya, "Creator and Creation," with former member secretary of Nepal Academy of Sciences Prof. Jagat Prasad Upadhyay as the main speaker. Speaker Upadhyay said that lyricist Thapaliya was a strong warrior and had even been injured while advocating for a democratic republic, and that he took up songwriting after becoming disillusioned with politics. He said that his songs mentioned the suffering suffered by the people due to the country's corruption, tyranny, and feudal culture.

Special guest Purushottam Dahal spoke at the program and discussed the contribution of Gopal Prasad Thapaliya. Thapaliya, who has achieved great heights in journalism, said that he left politics after closely experiencing the political changes in the country and becoming a veteran of all three anarchic activities. He said that he has transformed the current situation of the country and the unemployment caused by political activities into songwriting. Stating that Thapaliya's songs have a changing voice, Dahal said that the country has suffered from bad politics. Similarly, senior journalist and lyricist Gopal Prasad Thapaliya said that the contribution he made for the change of the country has been forgotten by the recent political activities and said that the political parties in the country have led the country to ruin at the behest of foreigners. He said that his creations are also in favor of the change of the country and against the corrupt.

The chief guest of the program, Ganga Prasad Upreti, former Vice Chancellor of Nepal Pragya Pratishthan, said that lyricist Gopal Prasad Thapaliya was also good at songwriting along with his journalism. Upreti said that despite playing a significant role in the transformation of the country, the government ignored him and so he left journalism and continued to be active in literary creation, which has given the literary sector a different and transformative creator.

Thapaliya, who started his journalism journey in 2026 BS, is also called the grandfather of journalism in the field of journalism in Nepal. He has created songs that are patriotic, awakening and consciousness-raising. Having created more than 150 songs, 25 songs by Thapaliya have been recorded. Audiovisuals of 12 songs composed by Thapaliya were presented at the same program. Ramesh Koirala, Vice President of Lyricists' Association Nepal, conducted the program.

Basanta Bityasi Thapa, President of Lyricists' Association Nepal, concluded the program with his speech and said that he is continuously working to play a positive role in favor of the rights of creators and change. He also wished good health and long life to creator Gopal Prasad Thapaliya, who continued to lead an active creative life even in the latter half of his life.
