Kathmandu. The 89th birth anniversary of renowned singer and musician Late Premdhwaj Pradhan was celebrated with grandeur on Tuesday at his birthplace Chautara in Sindhupalchowk.
Four musicians were honored with cash at a program organized by the Golden Voice Premdhwaj Pradhan Memorial Foundation. On the occasion, singer Meera Rana was honored with the Premdhwaj Pradhan National Music Award 2082 along with a cash prize of Rs. On that occasion, singer Meera Rana was honored with Premadhwaj Pradhan National Music Award 2082 with cash of 1 lakh rupees. Since singer Rana's husband could not participate in the program due to poor health, her brother Vijendra Mishra accepted the award. Instrumental music director Mohan Krishna Karki Dhali was awarded with Premadhwaj Pradhan National Instrumental Music Award with cash of 50 thousand rupees.
Similarly, singer Suraj Kumar Thapa was honored with the Prem Dhwaj Pradhan National Youth Music Award 2082 along with a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, while singer Chandra Singh Ghale of Sindhupalchowk was awarded the Prem Dhwaj-Kiran Pradhan National Talent Music Award along with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000. The honors and awards were presented by the program chairperson, founding chairperson of the foundation and singer Pradhan's wife Kiran Pradhan, chief guest Krishna Prasad Sapkota (mayor of Chautara Sangachokgadhi Municipality), and deputy mayor of the municipality Sita Thapa, lyricist and poet Dinesh Adhikari, singer Tirtha Kumari Thapa, and others.
Bhuvan Maske, treasurer of the foundation and Premdhwaj's niece, came to the hall to accept the honor from Chautara residents and expressed her happiness that the program was held. Lyricist and Dinesh Adhikari discussed the personal and literary life of Premdhwaj and said that he was a very simple and good-natured person. He also suggested to the local government to name him, establish a scholarship and award in the name of Premadhwaj. Discussing that Premadhwaj is a national treasure as well as the foundation of Sindhu, he said that they would not hesitate to build a square in his name or to appreciate his contribution.
Singers Suraj Kumar Thapa, Chandrasingh Ghale and Roshan Shrestha performed songs by Premdhwaj at the event, while students of the local Vanadevi Secondary School performed dances. Singer Pradhan passed away 4 years ago in 2078 BS. His family established the Golden Voice Premdhwaj Memorial Foundation in Pradhan's name in 2079 BS. It has been honoring musicians who have excelled in Nepali soft music every two years on the occasion of Premdhwaj's birth anniversary.
